Softball Recap: Hudson's Bay Eagles vs. Woodland Beavers
Hudson's Bay extended their losing streak to ten on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They lost 28-0 to the Woodland Beavers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Beavers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on April 9th.
As for Woodland, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Considering they have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Woodland's part, Gracelynn Huffman made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Huffman has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Brynn Skelton was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Madison Walker was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hudson's Bay is set to square off against their familiar foe Washougal at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Woodland will face off against rival Columbia River at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Beavers have won four straight at home, while the Rapids won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
