Baseball Game Preview: Akron-Westfield Westerners vs. St. Mary's Hawks

Akron-Westfield is 1-9 against St. Mary since July of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Westerners will be playing at home against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m.

On Monday, Akron-Westfield came up short against Hinton and fell 5-2.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's waltzed into their matchup on Monday with 15 straight wins... but they left with 16. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Akron-Westfield, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.

Akron-Westfield might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from St. Mary's in their previous meeting on Friday. Can the Westerners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
