Softball Recap: Bunn Gets the Win

Bunn had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles by a score of 7-4 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Emily Baez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Paige Wood and Mely Baez did most of the damage at the plate: Wood went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Mely went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Wood a new career-high. Maycey Buchanan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bunn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.

Bunn's win bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Bunn will square off against East Duplin on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 2.8, the Panthers 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Uwharrie Charter Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
