Softball Recap: Lakin Has No Trouble Against Hugoton

Lakin lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Hugoton, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. The Broncs blew past the Eagles 12-2 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Broncs have posted against the Eagles since April 25, 2019.

Moriah Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. Ortiz was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Lileah Villa was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Beltran, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Lakin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Lakin's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Hugoton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Coincidentally, Lakin and Hugoton will both be playing Cimarron the next time they take the field. The Broncs will head out to face the Bluejays at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Eagles will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
