Football Recap: Long Beach Poly Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Long Beach Poly extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 3-2. They took down the Lakewood Lancers 21-7. That's more bragging rights for the Jackrabbits, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Deuce Jefferson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 232 yards and two TDs, while also rushing for 73 yards on only five carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Jayden Coley was Jefferson's top target, picking up 90 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Long Beach Poly's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Taj Bordeaux, Toa Tamasoa, and Jaden Hernandez, who each picked up one sack apiece. Long Beach Poly received some extra help from Hernandez, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

As for Lakewood, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 3-3. Having soared to a lofty 31 points in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

Kade Casillas and Jordan Montgomery certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Casillas rushed for 97 yards and one score on only ten carries, while Montgomery rushed for 80 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Long Beach Poly will challenge Mission Viejo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Jefferson and Luke Fahey. As for Lakewood, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
