Baseball Recap: Salpointe Catholic Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Salpointe Catholic ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Rio Rico Hawks by a score of 8-4. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Christopher Gutierrez looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Johnny Abramian and David Driskill did most of the damage at the plate: Abramian went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Driskill went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits Abramian has posted since back in April of 2025. Colton Raetzman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Salpointe Catholic's record is now 17-8. As for Rio Rico, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-15 record this season.

Salpointe Catholic will face off against Nogales at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rio Rico does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
