Softball Recap: Madison County Finds Playoff Glory Versus Hilliard

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Madison County walked away with it. They didn't even let the Hilliard Flashes on the board on Thursday, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Cowboys, who have now won five contests in a row.

Alden Bass made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Gracelynn Newsome and Logan Bass did most of the damage at the plate: Newsome went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI, while Logan went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emma Rogers, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Madison County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Madison County's record is now 17-3. As for Hilliard, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

As of now, neither Madison County nor Hilliard have any future games scheduled.
