Basketball Recap: Newberry Takes a Loss

After flying high against Santa Fe last Thursday, Newberry came back down to earth. The Newberry Panthers fell just short of the Fort White Indians by a score of 60-58 on Friday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fort White to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ya'Zuri Hollie, who posted 41 points and seven rebounds. The contest was Hollie's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isreal Hart, who put up 15 points along with seven boards and five steals.

Newberry's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Fort White, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Newberry Panthers duke it out with the Trenton Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Trenton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. As for Fort White, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-39 defeat against Bradford on the 16th.
