Softball Game Preview: Liberty Christian Academy Heat vs. Wayne Christian Eagles

The Liberty Christian Academy Heat will take on the Wayne Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty Christian Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Wayne Christian will come in with three straight wins.

Friday just wasn't the day for Liberty Christian Academy's offense. They lost 11-0 to Freedom Christian Academy on Friday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Heat were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Wayne Christian got the win against Arendell Parrott Academy on Thursday by a conclusive 11-3. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.

Riley Sutton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two triples. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aj Verme was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Mitchell, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Wayne Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Wayne Christian's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
