Baseball Recap: Quilcene Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Quilcene had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They put the hurt on the La Conner Braves with a sharp 15-3 win. For the Rangers, this counts as revenge for the 6-1 victory the Braves walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Oliver Hopkins and Eli Allen were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hopkins tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Allen kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hopkins went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Allen went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. With that strong performance, Hopkins is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Jayden Love was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Robert Evans, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Quilcene was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Quilcene's record now sits at 5-2. As for La Conner, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Quilcene will venture away from home to take on Northwest Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rangers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. As for La Conner, they are taking a road trip to face off against Orcas Island at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Braves will no doubt try to take advantage of.
