Softball Game Preview: Belfry Pirates vs. Clay County Tigers

The Belfry Pirates will face off against the Clay County Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Belfry's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Clay County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Thursday, Belfry came up short against Letcher County Central and fell 7-4.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clay County). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Lynn Camp a 14-0 shutout on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the Tigers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

The team relied heavily on Alivia Hoskins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Holly Hacker was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Clay County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Belfry dropped their record down to 8-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Clay County, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-7.
