Volleyball Recap: South Mecklenburg Falls Short Against Ranked East Mecklenburg

South Mecklenburg faced East Mecklenburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. South Mecklenburg took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Mecklenburg. The Sabres just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

South Mecklenburg started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16.

When it comes to explaining why South Mecklenburg lost, don't look at Phoenix Modie. Despite the final result, he had 11 kills, seven blocks, and five aces. Modie is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had six or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Jackson Fancher was another key player, getting five digs, two aces, and one block.

Among those leading the charge was Charlie Wehrheim, who had 20 assists. Khang Nguyen also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

South Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for East Mecklenburg, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 7-0.
