Softball Recap: Canton Comes Up Short

Canton managed to slip by Illini Bluffs the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Little Giants came up short against the Tigers on Wednesday, falling 10-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Little Giants, who until this matchup were averaging four runs allowed.

Canton saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tori Birch, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was Birch's first of the season. Another was Emma Picco, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Canton moved to 6-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Illini Bluffs, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

When Canton and Illini Bluffs next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Little Giants will try to stop East Peoria's six-game winning streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Canton 4, the Raiders 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Illini Bluffs will take on Huntley and their five-game winning streak at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
