Basketball Game Preview: Berthoud Spartans vs. The Classical Academy Titans

Two dominant guards in Isaac Erickson and Ky Walker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Berthoud Spartans will face off against The Classical Academy Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

The Classical Academy will be up against a hot Berthoud team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Berthoud claimed a resounding 76-41 victory over Northridge.

The Classical Academy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-59 heartbreaker at the hands of Pueblo South. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by exactly two points.

Berthoud will need to focus on slowing down Ben Mullenix, one of several The Classical Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He went 7-for-13 en route to 16 points. Burk Dorny was another key player, going 7-for-10 on his way to 15 points.

Even though they lost, The Classical Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They racked up nine more assists than Pueblo South's also-impressive total of ten.

Berthoud's win bumped their record up to 9-12. As for The Classical Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 17-4.

Berthoud was able to grind out a solid victory over The Classical Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 53-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Berthoud since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
