Baseball Recap: Taylor Griffins vs. Carlson Marauders
Taylor hadn't done well against Carlson recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Griffins walked away with a 6-2 win over the Marauders. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-5 back in April.
Taylor got a great performance from Colin Cannon as he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Cannon also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Griffins are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jaiden Shufeldt and Avery Smolenski did most of the damage at the plate: Shufeldt got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double, while Smolenski went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Smolenski a new career-high. Logan Doute also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Taylor's victory bumped their record up to 11-14. As for Carlson, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 16-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taylor will face off against Plymouth at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Carlson, they will square off against Airport at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
