Football Recap: Florence Christian's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

If Florence Christian was feeling good fresh off their 21-0 takedown of Pee Dee Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles fell 34-21 to the Williamsburg Academy Stallions on Friday. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Stallions recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Florence Christian lost, don't look at Brooks Poston. Despite the final result, he rushed for 99 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 12 yards and one TD.

Leading Williamsburg Academy to victory were Grant Small and Micah Balder. Small rushed for 143 yards and three scores while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, while Balder rushed for 132 yards and one TD. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 81 yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Florence Christian fell to 4-1. As for Williamsburg Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florence Christian will challenge Wilson Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Barons' defense has only allowed 13.6 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Williamsburg Academy, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Carolina Academy at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
