Softball Recap: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Nebraska City Pioneers
It was a good run, but Fort Calhoun unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Nebraska City Pioneers by a score of 11-10. Anna Taylor was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in August. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Addison Benoit was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Emily Warfield, who went 1-for-1 with a home run and two RBI.
Even though they lost, Fort Calhoun didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with eight strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nebraska City only tossed five.
