Softball Game Preview: Archbishop Mitty Monarchs vs. Presentation Panthers

Archbishop Mitty is 9-1 against Presentation since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Monarchs will take on the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

While Archbishop Mitty's victory against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Monarchs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Fightin' Irish on Wednesday.

Kyleigh Mace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Presentation's offense. They came up short against St. Ignatius College Preparatory on Wednesday, falling 11-0. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Archbishop Mitty's victory bumped their record up to 11-5-1. As for Presentation, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Archbishop Mitty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Presentation struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Archbishop Mitty took their win against Presentation in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 25-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
