Baseball Recap: Gardena Starts Season with Win Against Santee

Gardena took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Santee Falcons with a sharp 11-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won three in a row.

Anthony Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Garcia was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Jordy Hernandez and Marco Viveros did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Viveros scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Hernandez a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Derek Norris, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Gardena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santee only posted an OBP of .312.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gardena will square off against Jordan at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Santee, they will face off against Contreras at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
