Basketball Game Preview: Grundy Golden Wave vs. Honaker Tigers

Grundy is 0-10 against Honaker since February of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Grundy Golden Wave will welcome the Honaker Tigers at 7:30 p.m.

Last Friday, Grundy opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-43 defeat to Graham. The Golden Wave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Honaker entered their tilt with Rye Cove on Saturday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They blew past the Eagles 53-29. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Honaker's win came from a few key players Grundy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alayna McNulty, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. McNulty is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Julianna Farmer, who posted 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Honaker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 27 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Honaker's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Grundy, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6.

Grundy was dealt a bruising 61-30 defeat at the hands of Honaker in their previous meeting on Monday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of McNulty, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards.
