Baseball Game Preview: Pearl River Pirates vs. Albertus Magnus Falcons

Pearl River is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the Albertus Magnus Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Pearl River's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Albertus Magnus' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Clarkstown South hit Pearl River with a four-run fourth inning two weeks ago, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Albertus Magnus got the win against Ardsley on Saturday by a conclusive 12-2. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Luke Forsberg made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Albertus Magnus is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Forsberg was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Tyler Wein was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Albertus Magnus now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Pearl River, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Pearl River skirted past Albertus Magnus 6-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
