Basketball Recap: Surry HomeSchool Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Surry HomeSchool can now relate to. They were outmatched by the South Wake Sabres and fell 73-19. While losing is never fun, the Runnin' Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while the Sabres are ranked 41st).

Rebekah Hartzell was her usual excellent self, going 9-for-14 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven assists and six boards for South Wake. Hartzell is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Savannah Taylor was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven steals and five assists.

Surry HomeSchool has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season. The victory was the fifth in a row for South Wake, bringing their record for this year to 29-2.

Surry HomeSchool does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Wake, they will challenge South Guilford HomeSchool at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. South Guilford HomeSchool's defense has only allowed 26.5 points per game this season, so South Wake's offense will have their work cut out for them.
