Soccer Game Preview: Smiths Station vs. Auburn

Smiths Station hasn't had much luck against Auburn recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Auburn will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Smiths Station extended their winning streak to 13 on Wednesday. The Panthers' defense stepped up to hand Russell County a 10-0 shutout. Sara Munguia was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Auburn hasn't lost a match since March 6th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Friday. They blew past Opelika 10-0. Given Auburn's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama soccer rankings (they are ranked third, while Opelika are ranked 122nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Smiths Station's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those six games. As for Auburn, their win bumped their record up to 12-2-1.

Smiths Station might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Auburn when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
