Baseball Game Preview: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints vs. Nansemond River Warriors

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints will square off against the Nansemond River Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on North Cross with a sharp 11-3 win on Saturday. Fans of the Saints have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Cam Bergen made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Phoenix Hope looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

Back at the plate, Cole Goodman was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Nansemond River came up short against Western Branch on Thursday and fell 8-3. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Bruins: they've now lost three in a row.

Nansemond River saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evin Stevens, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Nansemond River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
