Baseball Recap: Kenton Ridge Takes Down Franklin in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Kenton Ridge rose to the challenge on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Franklin Wildcats a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since April 12th.

Not much got past Jake Beard, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Franklin off the board. Beard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nic Stumpf, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Doogs, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles.

The win (which was Kenton Ridge's sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Franklin, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-18.

As of now, neither Kenton Ridge nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
