Softball Recap: Memorial's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Memorial dropped their record down to 13-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bryan Golden Bears. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Roughriders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Bryan, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-4. Give their pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

For Bryan's part, Memorial's batters probably weren't too happy with Thea Staten, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 15 Ks (she gave up three walks). Staten has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mylie Vollmer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana McCoy-Martinez, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bryan, they will square off against West Geauga at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
