Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Township Spartans vs. La Salle College Explorers

The Springfield Township Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the La Salle College Explorers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Springfield Township will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Thursday, Springfield Township earned a 9-4 victory over William Tennent.

Max May tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mike Capoferri was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ryan McGuckin, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, La Salle College's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Archbishop Wood by a score of 1-0. Explorers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Vikings since on Wednesday.

Chris Cavalcante spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

La Salle College's loss dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Springfield Township, their record is now 16-3.

Springfield Township might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from La Salle College in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
