Preview: Mayde Creek Rams vs. Morton Ranch Mavericks
Mayde Creek is 2-7 against Morton Ranch since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mayde Creek Rams will be playing at home against the Morton Ranch Mavericks at 7:15 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 45-16, which was the final score in Mayde Creek's tilt against Tompkins on Friday. Mayde Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-3.
Despite the loss, Mayde Creek saw an underclassman step up: Christian Bradford rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Morton Ranch's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fifth straight loss. Their rough 41-20 defeat to Tompkins might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Morton Ranch can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 619th, while Tompkins is ranked 193rd).
Despite their loss, Morton Ranch saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Gerald, who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 153 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Martavian Hill, who gained 111 total yards and a touchdown.
Mayde Creek has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Morton Ranch, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7.
Mayde Creek was taken down by Morton Ranch 47-10 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Mayde Creek, Santana Scott (who rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
