Football Recap: Russell Piles Up the Points Against Carroll County

It's playoff time, and Russell had no trouble coming through when it counted. They really took it to the Carroll County Panthers for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-0 victory. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 29 points or more this season.

Russell found their leader in sophomore Kaiden Benge, who rushed for 140 yards and two TDs while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Those 140 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Benge. Grayson Kiser got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Russell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 205 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Russell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Shawn Deskins, Cayden Pennington, and Kiser picked up one apiece. Deskins got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Russell has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.3 points on average over those games. As for Carroll County, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Looking ahead, Russell will take on Bourbon County at 7:30 p.m. on the 14th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Red Devils 11.5, the Colonels 13.1) so any points scored will be well earned. Carroll County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
