Softball Game Preview: Kennett Blue Demons vs. Unionville Longhorns

The Kennett Blue Demons will head out to challenge the Unionville Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Kennett will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Delaware County Christian on Wednesday. The Blue Demons put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 16-1 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Blue Demons this season.

Meanwhile, while Unionville put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Oxford. The Longhorns blew past the Hornets 9-0. Considering the Longhorns have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Peyton Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She also allowed four hits, marking her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Smith, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Lily Daniels was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Unionville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Kennett, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Kennett might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Unionville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Demons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
