Round Lake extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-17 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wauconda Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 on Tuesday.

Round Lake saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Antonio Gomez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Wauconda, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Wauconda's side, Brayden Kirchwehm tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Kirchwehm a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Luke Sickmeir was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Lucas Swanson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

While Round Lake had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
