Baseball Game Preview: Maryvale Panthers vs. South Mountain Jaguars

The Maryvale Panthers will take on the South Mountain Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Maryvale and 25 for South Mountain dating back to last season.

Maryvale came up short against Dobson on Wednesday, falling 12-1.

Maryvale saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariel Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That double was Garcia's first of the season.

Camelback hit South Mountain with a nine-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars lost 16-6 to the Spartans. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 10, 2018, but that streak is no more.

South Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Maryvale, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maryvale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Maryvale skirted past South Mountain 14-13 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
