Basketball Recap: South Hagerstown Comes Up Short

South Hagerstown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Smithsburg Leopards, falling 62-33. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Leopards are ranked 51st).

Smithsburg was led to victory by Claire Bono and Skyla Mastronardi. Bono dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards, while Mastronardi went 7 for 14 on her way to 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. What's more, Bono also racked up seven assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Jillian Malott was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

South Hagerstown's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Smithsburg, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.

While South Hagerstown had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Friday.
