 With a playoff game on the line, Las Animas rose to the challenge  on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Dolores Huerta Prep Scorpions with a sharp  12-2 win. Considering Las Animas has won 14 matchups by more than five  runs this season, Saturday's  blowout was nothing new.
  Damien Baca made a splash while hitting and pitching. He  struck out ten batters over  five innings while giving up just two earned runs off   two  hits. Baca has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  tossed less than five  strikeouts in ten consecutive pitching appearances. Baca was also big at the plate,  going 3-for-4 with three  RBI and a  double.
 In other batting news,  TJ Ortiz was a standout: he scored three  runs and  stole three bases while going 4-for-4.  Conan Tyler was another key contributor,  scoring two  runs and  stealing two bases while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.
 Like Las Animas, Dolores Huerta Prep also got a great game from a two-way player:  Cameron Stringfellow. On the mound, he  pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   one  hit. Stringfellow was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring two  runs and  stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
 Stringfellow wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Cristo Esquibel, who  went 1-for-3 with  an  RBI.
 Las Animas' victory was  their ninth straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 22-2. As for Dolores Huerta Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.
 Las Animas didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  game,  a  10-5  win vs. St. Mary's on the 18th. Dolores Huerta Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
