Softball Recap: Astoria Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Yamhill-Carlton

Astoria faced Yamhill-Carlton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Fishermen walked away with a 4-1 win over the Tigers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-7 back in March.

Taryen Wray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lyla Carlson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kya Lindell, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one double.

Astoria has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Yamhill-Carlton, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-8.

As of now, neither Astoria nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
