How Texas volleyball players stack up defensively against the nation

The Texas volleyball season finished up with state championships last week. Below are the final top servers in terms of aces along with defensive leaders and where they rank nationally in individual categories.

SERVING ACES
Elise Meade, So., KOR Education School (College Station) No. 9
Meade averaged 2.4 aces per set this season and finished with 174. Ten times she put up double-digit aces in a match, including a remarkable 19-ace performance in a three-set victory.

Micaela Sosa, Jr., KIPP Generations Collegiate (Houston) No. 25
Sosa closed out her junior campaign with 149 aces, 2.3 per set. She tallied 17 or more aces in two matches this season and had a service ace percentage of 47.8.

Elizabeth Newport, So., Baytown Christian (Baytown) No. 28
Newport came through with 145 aces this season, but only twice had 10 or more in a match. In a 3-0 victory on Oct. 4, she registered 20 aces in just 29 serves.



Jessica Hardin, So., Faith Christian (Pasadena) No. 42
Another underclassman on the list, Hardin was spectacular in just 61 sets played with 138 aces. In 16 of the 20 matches she played this season, she had five or more aces.

Calli Pierce, Sr., Waxahachie Prep (Waxahachie) No. 61
Pierce capped her career with 130 aces. She registered just one double-digit ace match, but had four or more aces in 18 matches this season.


TOTAL BLOCKS
Cadi Boyer, So., Hutto No. 1
Boyer was tops in the nation in blocks, and it wasn't even close. Her 492 blocks were 86 more than the second-place finisher. Boyer had double-digit blocks in 19 matches this season, including a 39-block outburst in a five-set victory on Oct. 7.

Bailey Foy, Sr., North Lamar (Paris) No. 3
Foy finished with 392 blocks, 180 of those were solo. Nineteen times this season she registered 10 or more blocks in a match. Her season high was 30 in a four-set victory.

Ashley Blamey, Sr., Hutto No. 4
Blamey was a blocking machine with 339 on the season, averaging 2.8 per set. In a string of three matches at the end of the year, she combined for 61 blocks, including a season-high 23-block outing.

Raeley Crosley, Jr., Kennedale No. 6
Crosley closed out her junior year with 321 blocks. She came through with double-digit blocks in 13 matches.



Serena Patterson, Jr., Red Oak No. 10
Patterson had a consistent season at the net for Red Oak with 272 blocks. She had four or more blocks in all but nine matches.


DIGS
Katryna Dahlberg, Sr., Hutto No. 2
Dahlberg capped her senior year with 1,045 digs. She averaged 8.1 per set and only had less than double digits in a match twice this season. Dahlberg came through with 48 digs in one five-match at the end of the year.

Darby Hughes, Sr., Franklin No. 3
Hughes came through with 1,030 digs on the year. She tallied 32 or more digs in a match a remarkable nine times. In four of the final six games of her career, she had 40-plus digs.

Mia Primavera, Sr., The Woodlands No. 6
Primavera was a rock on the defensive end for The Woodlands this season. She averaged 7.1 digs per set and finished with 974 total.

Makenna Hanssen, Sr., Brennan (San Antonio) No. 7
In only one match this season did Hanssen have less than 10 digs. She put a staggering 964 digs and scored a season-high 39 digs in a 3-2 career-ending loss to Reagan on Nov. 4.

Larisa Garcia Sr., San Benito No. 10
Garcia had a big final season with 895 digs. She averaged 7.5 digs per set for the Greyhounds.
