Football Game Recap: Gainesville vs. Van Alstyne

Van Alstyne won the last time they faced Gainesville, and things went their way on Thursday, too. Van Alstyne skirted past Gainesville 33-31. The tight race was right in line with the MaxPreps state rankings' forecast.

No one put up better numbers for Van Alstyne than junior Jake Carroll, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior Dylan Porter was in the mix, too, providing Van Alstyne with 2 touchdowns.

Junior Brandon Baker and senior Draylon Franklin were two go-getters for Gainesville despite the loss. The former rushed for 218 yards and 1 touchdown, while the latter picked up 106 yards on the ground and threw 3 TDs.

The win bumped Van Alstyne's record up to 1-3. The defeat dropped Gainesville's record to 1-3.

Next week Van Alstyne take on Rains at 7:30 PM. Rains took a loss in their last matchup and are no doubt out to reverse Van Alstyne's good fortune. As for Gainesville, they will face off against Bridgeport.
