Football Recap: Phoenix Comes Up Short

If Phoenix was riding high fresh off their 32-0 takedown of Coquille last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates lost 42-21 to the North Valley Knights on Saturday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Despite the loss, Phoenix still got an impressive performance from Cody Martin, who rushed for 111 yards on only ten carries.

Hayden Taylor had an outrageously good game for North Valley as he rushed for 238 yards and four TDs on only 15 carries. Taylor is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 104 every time he's taken the field this season. Max Freedman did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 94 receiving yards.

Phoenix's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for North Valley, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phoenix will challenge Cascade Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Challengers' defense has only allowed 6.8 points per game this season, so the Pirates' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for North Valley, they will square off against Burns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Knights 13.6, the Hilanders 5.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
