Baseball Recap: Shelby County Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Shelby County challenged Baldwin County on Friday. The Shelby County Wildcats fell 9-4 to the Baldwin County Tigers.

Colby Matherson put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

Matherson wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Pennington, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Pennington a new career-high in doubles (two).

Shelby County's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Baldwin County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shelby County will welcome Central of Clay County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Baldwin County, they will square off against Bartlett at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
