Basketball Recap: Julian Perez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Camp Verde over Veritas Prep

After flying high against BASIS Phoenix last Friday, Camp Verde came back down to earth. The Camp Verde Cowboys took a 71-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Veritas Prep Falcons. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (61), the Cowboys still had to take the loss.

Camp Verde's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julian Perez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds. That's the most boards Perez has posted since back in December of 2023. Tristan Clarke also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Veritas Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Miles Perry, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 20 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Carter Perry, who went 9 for 16 en route to 21 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Camp Verde dropped their record down to 9-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Veritas Prep, their record is now 12-8.

Camp Verde has already played their next match (against Fountain Hills), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Veritas Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-38 loss against Phoenix Country Day on the 15th.
