Basketball Recap: Sharyland Rattlers vs. McAllen Bulldogs
The Sharyland Rattlers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of McAllen. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Sharyland of the 45-30 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the defeat, Sharyland had strong showings from Mariajose Campos, who scored 16 points along with three steals, and Mia Bargas, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Campos is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played.
McAllen's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cianni Bowen, who scored six points along with nine steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lola Mallard, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Sharyland has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-23 record this season. As for McAllen, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-17 record this season.
Sharyland will be playing at home against the Diamondbacks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pioneer presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Rattlers in Texas (the Diamondbacks are ranked 446th, while the Rattlers are ranked 1142nd). As for McAllen, they will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valley View comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last 15 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
