Basketball Recap: Latishia Nez and Denale Sandoval Secure Win for Cuba

Cuba won against Cottonwood Classical Prep last Tuesday with 63 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Cuba Rams blew past the Bosque Bobcats 63-43. That's more bragging rights for the Rams, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cuba was led to victory by Denale Sandoval and Latishia Nez. Sandoval dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards, while Nez posted eight points and six rebounds. Sandoval is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Khloe Whitehorse, who earned ten points.

Cuba was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bosque only posted two assists.

Bosque's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kiyaa'Aanii Otero, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Ainsley Capps, who went 7 for 14 en route to 20 points and six boards. That was a full 46.5% of Bosque's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Cheyenne Anderson was another key player, putting up four points and 11 rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Cuba and bumps their season record up to 8-12. As for Bosque, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-13.

Cuba will venture away from home to square off against Sandia Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sandia Prep will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Cuba surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bosque, they will host Del Norte at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
