Softball Recap: Central Rockets vs. Huntley Red Raiders
Central had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 9-15-1 to make it four. They came up short against the Huntley Red Raiders, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 back in April.
Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mei Shirokawa, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Huntley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. Considering they have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
On Huntley's side, they let Piper Heimbrodt and Lyla Ginczycki run wild. Heimbrodt went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Ginczycki went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Ginczycki has posted over her last 12 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Bayness, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Central will head out to square off against St. Charles East at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Huntley, they will venture away from home to challenge McHenry at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
