Baseball Recap: Watseka Beats Cissna Park for Their Third Straight Win

Watseka waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cissna Park Timberwolves a 10-0 shutout. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Timberwolves, too.

Mason Galyen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs. Watseka is 3-1 when Galyen posts two or more runs, but 6-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Quinn Starkey was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Watseka: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-13 otherwise. James Newell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Watseka's victory bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Cissna Park, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season.

Watseka will face off against Momence at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Momence Athletics have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Cissna Park, they will take on Attica at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
