Baseball Recap: Mattanawcook Gets the Win

On Monday Mattanawcook's undefeated season almost came to an end. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Foxcroft Academy Ponies 4-2. This was payback for the Lynx, who suffered a 14-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Isaac Ritchie was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one RBI.

Ritchie wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Avery Jordan, who went 2-for-6 with one run. Tyler Mahaney also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Mattanawcook's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Foxcroft Academy, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattanawcook will square off against Dexter at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Foxcroft Academy, they will challenge Piscataquis at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
