Basketball Game Preview: Alamo Navajo Cougars vs. Hondo Valley Eagles

The Alamo Navajo Cougars will face off against the Hondo Valley Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Alamo Navajo is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Mountainair just ended the team's five-game winning streak last Thursday. They lost to the Mustangs at home by a 62-43 margin.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Zephaniah Guerro, who posted seven points and 17 boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 26 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Pino, who put up eight points and 13 boards.

Meanwhile, Hondo Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Mountainair and fell 64-27.

Hondo Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Alamo Navajo, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

Everything came up roses for Alamo Navajo against Hondo Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 71-30 win. In that game, Alamo Navajo amassed a halftime lead of 44-17, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
