With a playoff win on the line, Needville rose to the challenge on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Calhoun Sandcrabs a 17-0 shutout. The Bluejays are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 17 straight.

Ralphie Ortiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Needville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calhoun only posted an OBP of .125.

Needville's win bumped their record up to 21-9-1. As for Calhoun, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-16-3.

Needville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Sandcrabs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
