Basketball Recap: Shannon Adkins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Laurens over Hephzibah

West Laurens fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Hephzibah on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 74-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rebels. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

West Laurens' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shannon Adkins, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Adkins is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Juvon Hill also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Hephzibah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justus Mays, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 15 boards. Another player making a difference was Keith Dunn, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 21 rebounds.

West Laurens' loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Hephzibah, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.

West Laurens didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 86-34 defeat against Harlem on the 18th. Hephzibah and Midland Valley will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on the 26th.
