Basketball Game Preview: Vega Longhorns vs. Logan Longhorns

The Vega Longhorns will head out to square off against the Logan Longhorns at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Vega is headed into Tuesday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. The contest between them and Stratford didn't end well, with Vega falling 60-46. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while the Elks are ranked 103rd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Logan). They breezed by Coronado to the tune of 68-11 on Saturday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-4.

Vega better focus on containing Desta Rose and Marilyn Moreno as the pair were huge in Logan's win. Rose went 10 for 13 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds, while Moreno went 7 of 11 en route to 18 points and four steals. Those seven assists gave Rose a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Bruhn, who posted three points along with five assists and three steals.

Logan was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Logan is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Vega, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-7.
