Basketball Game Preview: Lake Country Christian Eagles vs. Midland Classical Academy Knights

Lake Country Christian and Midland Classical Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Lake Country Christian Eagles will take on the Midland Classical Academy Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Lake Country Christian made easy work of Trinity Christian and carried off a 63-43 victory. Given Lake Country Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Trinity Christian is ranked 969th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Midland Classical Academy waltzed into their match on Saturday with 14 straight wins... but they left with 15. They claimed a resounding 64-28 win over the Eagles. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-12.

Midland Classical Academy's win came from a few key players Lake Country Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kaleigh Sherrill, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds. Those 17 boards gave her a new career-high. Addie Dunn was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Midland Classical Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Midland Classical Academy's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Lake Country Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

Lake Country Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Midland Classical Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 42-36 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Dunn, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Lake Country Christian still be able to contain Dunn? There's only one way to find out.
